Text Diff

Compare two texts line by line and highlight what was added or removed.

Paste an original and a changed version to see a clear line-by-line diff: additions, removals and unchanged lines, plus a summary count. Great for comparing drafts, config files or copy. Runs locally in your browser.

Paste the original text into the left box and the edited version into the right box. As you type, the tool compares the two line by line and highlights added lines in green and removed lines in red, with a live count of additions, removals, and unchanged lines shown above the result.

Frequently asked questions

Does it compare word by word or line by line?

Line by line. Each line is compared as a whole using a longest-common-subsequence algorithm, so unchanged lines are matched correctly even when other lines were added or removed around them.

Can I compare code as well as plain text?

Yes. Since the comparison treats each line as plain text, it works well for source code, config files, JSON, or any other line-based content, not just prose.

Are whitespace-only changes detected?

Yes. Lines are compared exactly, so a change in indentation, trailing spaces, or tabs will show up as a removed line followed by an added line.

Can I upload files instead of pasting text?

There's no file upload — paste the contents into the two text boxes. You can copy the text out of a file first if needed.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser; nothing you paste is sent to a server or stored.
