Date & Time: practical guide

Use date tools for calendar intervals, timers for elapsed time, timestamp converters for machine-readable dates, and world clocks for a current local time. A duration such as 24 hours is not always the same as the next calendar day when daylight-saving changes occur.

Worked example

Tokyo is UTC+9, so 09:00 in Tokyo corresponds to 00:00 UTC. When coordinating a meeting across regions, confirm the actual city and date instead of relying on a remembered fixed offset.

What to check before relying on a result

Time-zone rules can change by law and historical offsets may be irregular. Unix timestamps are usually seconds or milliseconds from a defined epoch; verify which unit the receiving system expects. Confirm the displayed date, time zone, and daylight-saving status before scheduling an important event.
